A Jimmy Pants “Rewind”
Who Is Jimmy Pants? was born in the comedically twisted minds of Joseph Church and Jeff Bienstock in early 2019. Three developmental readings and two workshops later (wrapped around the pandemic), and with the invaluable support of Executive Producer Jim Kierstead and the York Theatre Company, the show is now ready for production.
Who Is Jimmy Pants? (whose original title was Pants! The Jimmy Pants Musical) was conceived in reaction to the overpopulation of bio-jukebox musicals on Broadway in recent years. Its authors, Joe and Jeff, having been reared on Mel Brooks, Monty Python, The Simpsons, and Flight of the Conchords (among countless other comedic influences), decided that they had no choice but to fracture a form that they felt had become much too commonplace, and much too cliché.
What they discovered along the way was that even in spoof, every play needs a heart and soul—and they found it, with the help of brilliant director/choreographer Bill Castellino and some very talented actors, among others—in the story, in the lovable character of Jimmy Pants, and in the lives of those with whom he shares his fictional journey. Despite all of Jimmy’s adventures actually being… well… misadventures, in the end, he manages to find his own version of redemption. And along the way, audiences are having a blast, with jokes flying every second, and songs that make them laugh, dance, and even cry.
The show has a cast of 9-10 players, and a band of 5-6 musicians. It runs about 90 minutes. It is 100% family-friendly, and has a diverse cast. It is especially suitable for any fan of musical theatre, pop music, nostalgia, dancing, comedy… and just plain joyous entertainment!
